About me
I started quilting a couple of years ago when my lovely godson Josh asked me to replace the quilt he’d been given by my Mum when he was little. At 23 he felt it was appropriate to have a slightly larger, more grown up quilt! I was about to ask my Mum to make him one, when I realized I would like to rekindle my love of fabrics. I had made a couple of quilts as a teenager and my degree was in textile design but it had been many years since I’d used a sewing machine for anything other than mending school trousers and patching jeans.
My starting point was to use Ghanaian fabrics as Josh’s grandfather was from Ghana, and living in London it is easy to be inspired by the fantastic prints I see being worn by my neighbours and friends. As soon as I started looking I fell in love with the amazingly bright and bold patterns produced in west Africa and my quilting journey began. Once I’d finished Josh’s quilt my lovely Alex demanded I make one for him, but he wanted me to include aboriginal prints to reflect his love for his Australian cousins and I was soon captivated by the beauty and colour of aboriginal fabrics.
